This season we're descending to the dark side for inspiration.

Chanel sent out grunge goths with washed-out skin and matted hair, whilst the Yves Saint Laurent models had blood-bitten, black or burgendy stained lips and Viktor & Rolf's girls sported almost cartoonish black ringed eyes.

This is a far cry from the teenage goth looks of yore. Soft Goth or Goth Glam, is a polished, prettier version of the tough love goth vibe. If hair is going to be grungy – it should be artfully, not unwash-edly, matted – while skin may be pale, but it has a super natural, translucent glow that whispers money and good grooming.

Trend Alert: Metallic Nails

On the Autumn/Winter runways at Chanel, Galliano, Prada, and Dior, the mood was all about dark, soft goth appeal and gutsy, edgy glamour.

Nails were darkly metallic, in shades of burnished bronze, glossy crimson, steely silver and shimmering black. After summer's love affair with bright lights, bold colour varnishes – such as canary yellow or bright orange – autumn's mood is more grown-up.

Nails should be slightly longer this season, just peeking over the edge of the finger tips. Keep the shape curved and natural, for a polished effect.

If you only buy one polish, make it Chanel's Le Vernis in Kaleidoscope, (£14.50), it's a perfect metallic shade that suits all skin tones.

I also like Revlon Gold Get 'Em, a pale gold that looks more grown-up than last winter's brassy shades. While, Miss Sporty's Zodiac, (£1.99), at Superdrug, is a cool, metallic beige nude, that works well for a subtle nod to the trend.

I'm smitten by Paul & Joe's smoulderingly, dark metallic shade, 20, as well, for Grecian-style nails. Or try their hard-edged, bright silver Paul & Joe in 21, (£9), to wear with Christopher Kane's oversize sequin-encrusted collection, this fall.

As fashion begins to return to the world of elegance and glamour we see the emergence of fringe detailing. This delicate addition to tops, dresses and accessories adds texture and movement. It featured on the catwalk at Chanel and Jaeger but also at Gareth Pugh where (never one to do things by halves) he used actual hair. Fab Flash: Anna Mouglalis to Star in Another Coco Chanel Biopic

I am getting quite confused by the number of documentaries about Coco Chanel's life. Coco avant Chanel starring Audrey Tautou is currently being filmed but before that is even complete, plans for another film based on the life of Gabriella 'Coco' Chanel have been revealed.

The Secret Story of Chanel and Stravinsky (Chanel et Stravinsky, l'Histoire Secrete) will star Chanel muse Anna Mouglalis (pictured) as Coco. The film is set between 1913 to 1925 and portrays her relationship with Igor Stravinsky. Coco's love affair with the Russian composer has previously been documented in a book titled 'Coco and Ivor' by Chris Greenhalgh.

According to sources it will be directed by Jan Kounen and will star Mads Mikkelsen as Stravinsky.

Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards 2008

I was lucky enough to attend the Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards this week.

Judged by Alesha Dixon, TV presenter Emma Griffiths, skincare guru Anastasia Achilleos and Cosmopolitan Editor Louise Court, as well as famous makeup artists Daniel Sandler and Ruby Hammer, hair stylist to the stars – Andrew Barton, and Cosmo's veteran Beauty Director – Ingeborg van Lotringen – the awards showcase the very best beauty products around.

This year there were two new awards, the Beauty Breakthrough Award which went to amazing new product L'Oreal Derma Genesis SPF15 Day Cream and the Cosmo Classic Award, which went to one of my absolute can't-live-without products, YSL Touche Eclat. Ingeborg rightly said, at the awards, that while many products have now mimicked Touche Eclat, none even come close to it, in terms of light-reflecting coverage and texture.

Other winners I was thrilled to see, were Rimmel London Colour Mousse Eyeshadow as Best Eyeshadow, Chanel Mat Lumiere as Best Foundation, Nars, which won Best Powder Blush for the third year running, and my beloved Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream, which scooped Best Facial Sun Protection, for the second year in a row.

Soon to be the face of Chanel No. 5, Audrey Tautou is one of those girls who sums up the phrase 'alluring'. She's not only beautiful, but charming too. While she may not experiment with her look that often, she's nailed the art of looking modern yet classic.

A true, film star ingénue- I loved Audrey as the fresh-faced Amelie, and more recently she looks jaw-droppingly gorgeous in the French rom com Priceless. It's worth watching just for the make-up tips alone!

The Chanel No. 5 ad campaign, out in autumn, is being shot by Jean-Pierre Jeunet who directed Audrey in Amelie. So expect more worldwide sighing over her creamy skin and huge eyes. Oh la la!

Heaven Scent

After yet another new fragrance alert yesterday, I've been musing on perfume's long and complex relationship with promises - whether of sex, glamour, beauty or fame. And this got me thinking about why we actually wear scent - is it for ourselves, to feel extra-bellissima and gorgeous? Or is it to lure in a motley queue of smitten young men?

Sure, it depends on the day, your mood, the event - and perhaps even the perfume too. I've just started wearing the sweetly old fashioned signature Chloe scent when I want to evoke a bit of old-school glamour to my working day. But, I'd always fall back on Chanel Allure for down-and-out seduction.

But tell me, why do you wear scent? And for who?

Emma Watson is a Right (Coco Chanel) Mademoiselle

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson is reputedly set to replace Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel's iconic perfume - Coco Mademoiselle. The Edge of Love actress has been the face of the fragrance since 2006 and her contract is due to be coming to a end this summer.

Despite being known as tomboyish Hermione - in real life Emma is turning out to be something of a glamourpuss, and has already been spotted sporting some elegant Chanel frocks at film premieres and parties. The Mail on Sunday reports: Emma has been slowly integrated into the Chanel brand. . . Once it became clear she is growing into a beautiful young woman and wears the Chanel brand so elegantly, they had to sign her up.

Emma is fresh-faced, gorgeous and seems delightfully down-to-earth - we couldn't think of a better fit. Lets hope this is one of those 'face of..' rumours that turns out to be true...

UPDATE: People.com is reporting that the rumor is “100 percent not true."

Fab Flash: Chanel Boutique Opens at Dover Street Market

If you thought Dover Street Market was cool before, check it out now whilst it houses a temporary Chanel boutique. A month ago we told you that Chanel planned to open a temporary boutique in the fashion haven selling the the Métiers d'Arts Paris-Londres collection. Well, it opened yesterday with a bang as the likes of Daphne Guinness, Agyness Deyn, Jade Parfit and Henry Holland celebrated.

Karl Lagerfeld couldn't be there but there were plenty of cardboard cut outs dotted around making his presence felt! Henry Holland was the DJ whilst Agyness danced around, he looked adorable in turned up shorts and House of Holland loafers. Trinny Woodall (of Trinny and Susannah) was there with a friend, what not to wear to a Chanel boutique opening? Balenciaga.

2009 Cruise: Chanel

There were plenty of rumours surrounding the plans for the Chanel show including a possible appearance of Naomi Cambell and although Lagerfeld did not disappoint, Naomi was no where to be seen. Chanel do not do things by halves, and this resort show in Miami featured 60 looks and 18 synchronized swimmers!

People were expecting a Miami vice feel to the collection but Karl kept us on our toes as always beginning with a dark palette and twists on the classic tuxedo. Waists were high but hemlines were higher with bum-skimming skirts and shorts leaving little to the imagination. There was a classic glamour feel with plenty of applique and over-the-top feathers.

Fab Flash: Chanel to Launch New London Boutique

Karl Lagerfeld is obviously growing to love London, and why wouldn't he?! Last December, Chanel presented the pre fall collection here in London attracting plenty of celebrity attention. Now, it has been announced that Chanel plan to open a temporary boutique in the city's Dover Street Market from June 9th to 26th.

This will be the first time that Chanel has been available at the uber-cool market. Available will be items from the Métiers d'Arts Paris-Londres collection including ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoes. There will also be a few pieces from the Chanel main line.

The market is expected to dedicate window displays to the temporary boutique as well as installations throughout the store. Karl Lagerfeld explained his reasons for the Paris-Londres collection, "It's sophisticated and expensive clothing for the rich punk. The tone is at the same time post-modern and romantic."

Trend Alert: Two Tone Pumps

Alexa Chung was spotted on a night out earlier in the week with Dev Hynes. Her outfit wasn't to everybody's taste but I couldn't overlook her gorgeous two-tone pumps. The classic Chanel style flat are making a come back this season with French Sole offering them in many colour varieties.

A few High Street stores have also cottoned on to the trend and are offering a variety of colours and styles. The great thing about them is that they go with almost anything, you could even wear them with a dress for eveningwear. Alternatively, wear with your favourite pair of jeans for an instant update of the classic ballet pump.

Fab Flash: Karl Lagerfeld's Influence is Noted

Karl Lagerfeld, or 'The Kaiser' as he is so often known has been making an impact in the fashion industry for many decades. Perhaps most notable for relaunching Chanel in 1983, he has also made his mark at Fendi. Bearing this in mind, it is surprising that Lagerfeld has only just been recognised for his influence outside of the fashion sphere appearing 93rd in Time magazine’s top 100 most infuential people.

The designer made his mark on the High Street in 2004 with a capsule collection for H&M. He has recently developed his passion for photography by shooting campaigns himself.

Also appearing in the list is French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld who came 99th, just making it on to the list. However, you will note the lack of a Ms Wintour! Hedi Slimane describes Roitfeld as being "influential almost without knowing it".

Black is the Dress Code for Chanel Dinner

The Tribeca Film festival continues stateside and to celebrate the occasion Karl Lagerfeld threw a Chanel dinner inviting some of the hottest young things including Blake Lively (not sure about her dress, maybe it's the positioning of the ruffles?), Zoe Kravitz and Mary-Kate Olsen who strayed from black with a navy-blue blazer. Christy Turlington was also there with Ed Burns looking suitably demure in a midi-length black dress. I love Zoe's outfit, and the gold clutch bag adds a great shot of colour.

How do you feel about so much black being worn, isn't it supposed to be Spring?

Karl Lagerfeld now has full control over Chanel as he designs the clothes and shoots the ad campaigns himself. Well, if you want something done properly...! These latest ads of the Chanel Spring/Summer sportswear show a slightly different side of Karl's creativity because of the bright colours and fun poses. Earlier in the week, Fab US showed you the latest ad campaign starring Claudia Schiffer shot in a classic black and white style. Personally, I prefer these sports ads although they leave me lusting after a Chanel swim cap. What do you think of the campaign? See below for more images.

Karl Lagerfeld Spotted in New York Sporting New Style

Iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld has been spotted out having dinner in New York with friends sporting a new style. The eccentric designer who has been wearing a black suit with a black tie and his trademark leather gloves for the past year or so has now changed to a grey suit, waistcoat and bow-tie.
Perhaps the change came so that Lagerfeld could co-ordinate with the Chanel Fall collection which contained a large amount of grey as well as black. What do you think of his new look?
