Behind the Seams: Versace Heads to Beijing

Beijing has really been in the spotlight this year. Firstly for the Olympics, and now Donatella has taken the Versace empire over there for the first ever fashion show for the brand in China. The charity show took place near Beijing's central Tiananmen Square and raised over $100,000 for survivors of the earthquake in China's Sichuan province earlier this year.

The show only used Chinese models on a circular catwalk and presented pieces from Versace's Spring line which debuted in Milan back in September. Donatella explained to Reuters, "What appeals to me is the energy in China, especially in this city Beijing. There are a lot of young people, creative people, a lot of art – it's very inspiring."

She also warned that this might not be the last China sees of the fashion empire. "If the economic crisis permits, yes I'll come every year. I think the Chinese people love fashion – that's what I can feel." See below for images from the show.

Versace Create Ultimate Luxury Fragrance

Donatella Versace is never one to skimp on excess. Known for famously stating "more is more," the designer has just created what appears to be one of the world's most luxury perfumes. Despite the threat of a worldwide recession Donatalla's new fragrance will retail at $2,100.

The eau de parfum comes in a gleaming, hand-stitched white leather train case. It's been named simply Gianni Versace Couture, in tribute to Donatella's brother. The house of Versace has been working with it's beauty licensee and distributor, Euroitalia of Milan, for the past three years. Other fragrances in the stable include Versace, Versace Pour Homme, Versace Bright Crystal and Versace Man Eau Fraiche.

“Versace has reestablished itself as a modern luxury brand,” Donatella told WWD. “The Gianni Versace Couture fragrance project will reestablish Versace at the top of the beauty luxury sector.”

Trend Alert: Bright Yellow

Earlier this week Thandie Newton attended the London Film Festival in a bright yellow mini-dress broken up only by black accessories and heels. The colour was also worn during New York Fashion Week by Leighton Meester who also accessorised with black. Yellow might seem like an unusual trend for Autumn but this season it appeared on the catwalk at Diane von Furstenberg, Versace and Erdem (below left) to name but a few. Agyness Deyn modeled a Versace bandeau dress on the catwalk which featured an arty pattern. Copy the red carpet and team bright yellow with black patent accessories for stand-out party glamour.

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Versace While some criticized Frida Giannini's Gucci collection for being overly commercial, and lacking innovation, Versace managed to deliver both wearable and wowable Spring designs. Short, belted dresses are simply adorable, while powerful folds and curvature proved to work for the drama-loving vixen as well. Her palate was subdued — white, powder blue, camel, yellow, black and a gorgeous steel purple.

Fab Flash: Gianni Versace's Home Opens to Public

Tourists can now go to quite extreme measures to get closer to Gianni Versace. His Miami Beach home where he was shot is being opened to the public. Casa Casuarina is owned by Peter Loftin who orignally turned the house in to a private club, he later rented out rooms for overnight stays and events but has decided that the house is too 'magical' not to share. This month only you can visit the house for $50 (£26) where you will be shown round by a guide dressed in Versace. What do you think of the decision? A great idea or a tacky money-making scheme?

Spring menswear fashion week is in full swing in Milan with shows by Versace and Dolce & Gabbana already having taken place. Allegra Versace has already attended several shows. Earlier in the week she showed off her vamp lips at her Mother's Versace show and last night she attended the Tom Ford boutique opening. Alongside the likes of Miuccia Prada, Anna Wintour and Margherita Missoni (wow, imagine trying to dress for that party!) Allegra partied in this ensemble. The dress has the potential to look a bit like a sack and wash her out. However, she included a great pair of heels which not simply added height (thus losing the 'sack' risk) but also added a glamorous shot of colour. What do you think of her look? Source

Yesterday Victoria Beckham celebrated her 34th Birthday with two celebrations (of course). The first was with her friends at Eva Longoria's restaurant Beso where she wore a gorgeous backless blue Versace dress with matching Louboutins. The second with her family at Pink Taco in a gorgeous navy blue tea dress and strappy peep toe sandals. Everybody has been wondering what is going on with Victoria recently, especially following the questionable Marc Jacobs ads but credit where credits due and these are two great looks. Versace Menswear Launch at Barneys

Donatella Versace was in New York on Tuesday to launch the Spring Menswear line at Barneys. She called on celebrity friends to herald the launch including Woody Allen, Patti LaBelle (who was showing off her Versace tote!) and Simon Doonan.

She was also on the Today show discussing the collection although her strong Italian accent makes the conversation pretty hard to follow!
