On Our Radar: Topshop Launch Deer Friend Collection

Of course we all love Topshop but if there is a negative side (at all) it is surely that you get sick of seeing people wearing the same items as you!

Well, now those clever people at Topshop have even found a way to work round that! In September they will launch the Deer Friend collection which is a limited edition range of five key pieces including ruffled blouses, flirty skirts, bow decorated tops and knitted cardigans costing around £35 each.

It will literally be a case of once it's gone, it's gone! All of the items will feature cute deer motif or cherry detailing and a new range will be released once a month. The Deer Friend line will be available exclusively instores.

On Our Radar: Kate Moss for Topshop Part 6

If you're missing your Kate Moss fix as she continues to holiday (reportedly in Ibiza) then you'll be excited to hear that her sixth collection for Topshop has a release date! The Autumn/Winter line is due to arrive in store and online on Tuesday 9th September. Ms Moss put the finishing touches to the collection in mid-July. Exact details are yet to be revealed but maybe we could expect some leather trousers, a touch of lace and maybe even some loafers! What do you think the line will include?

Fearne Cotton was spotted leaving Radio One this weekend that was so packed with High Street items that I'm beginning to wonder whether she is to be the next face of Topshop.

She wore a plain white t-shirt which states 'Love My Bones' with a so-on-trend-it-hurts lace bolero and added colour with red boots and a maroon handbag.

Her outfit shows how easily you can update your wardrobe for the Autumn months. The lace bolero will set you back a mere £25 and completely changes an otherwise quite plain ensemble. See below to copy her style.

Celia Birtwell's long running collaboration with Topshop is one of the most successful High Street/designer collaborations out there. Using her iconic vintage prints, she creates beautiful pieces for the store which look like they should have a designer price tag. I personally am a huge fan of both Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell so am always excited to hear that another of her collections is hitting stores. This Autumn her line is even better with cut-out detail and huge flapping sleeves. Prices range from £50 for a blouse to £100 for a jumpsuit.

Fab Flash: Kate Moss for Topshop to Head to China?

I wish that I could report that Kate Moss was in some way related to the Beijing Olympics but sadly this story holds no link with the current sporting event. That said, I think that Ms Moss should consider designing for athletes with financial aid from Sir Philip Green, imagine how that might look, actual luxe sportswear! Anyway, I digress.

The real truth behind this story is that Sir Philip Green has spotted another money making opportunity claiming that they could make £25 million by exporting Kate Moss for Topshop to China. Rumour has it that Sir Philip is currently involved in plans to buy a space in the Shanghai Superbrand Mall.

The population of China is 22 times that of the UK and the country is currently experiencing a slight financial boom. Kate Moss helped launch the High Street store in New York and is expected to do the same in China. You can see why she needs more money, after all Forbes predict that she only earned $7.5 million last year...

Fab Flash: Leona Lewis for Topshop?

I can honestly say that this is one collaboration that I did not see coming. Following in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Leona is said to be in talks with Sir Philip Green to create a line for the High Street giant.

Leona has great girl-next-door qualities and is set to be a huge star on both sides of the Atlantic (as is Topshop following it's recent US launch). A source apparently told The Sun that Leona has a meeting with Sir Philip at the end of the month. “He knows she is emerging into one of the world’s top pop stars and wants to discuss her doing her own Topshop range."

Although I've never spotted her wearing anything particularly ground breaking, you could argue that Kate Moss only ever wears jeans and boots. What do you think of this possible collaboration?

Trend Alert: Exposed Zips

Exposed zips have been on the catwalks for a few seasons. They originally appeared at Lanvin as Alber Elbaz created beautifully feminine dresses where your attention was seductively drawn to the thick visible zip at the back.

Initially there was some confusion, as though the dress was not quite finished, but then they began to emerge all over the fashion spectrum and a trend was born.

Zips appear on both the front and back of garments to become a feature of the item rather than simply a function. In Topshop this season you will struggle to find a dress with a hidden zip as it quickly becomes the focal point of dresses, skirts and tops.

It definitely gives items a punky edge and with all the tartan around next season your wardrobe is sure to feel very '70s very soon...

Fab Ad: Fifi Chachnil for Topshop

Back in May we told you that glamorous lingerie house Fifi Chachnil would be creating a capsule collection for Topshop. Well, the wait is nearly over with the pieces due to hit stores next week on 28th July.

We couldn't resist sharing these '50s pin-up images with you from the ad campaign. It shows off beautifully the range of pieces which will be on offer for a fun lingerie look. Using fabrics such as lace and soft tulles the range includes babydolls, basques and garters.

Trend Alert: Tartan

Classic heritage fabrics such as tweed, tartan and checks featured heavily on the catwalk for Autumn/Winter. Leading the way was British designer Henry Holland who created his own tartan pattern and based his entire House of Holland collection on the indigo fabric. The most memorable piece was a tiered tartan dress modeled by Henry's BFF Agyness Deyn. Dolce & Gabbana produced a D&G line inspired by our very own Queen with neatly tied head scarves and midi-length tartan skirts. The trend has already begun to take over the High Street with Topshop particularly pioneering the style. See below for some items already available.

Fab Ad: Jourdan Dunn for Topshop

We've already drooled all over the new Topshop collection and planned our outfits but here is the icing on the cake. New Brit it-model Jourdan Dunn (who recently starred on the cover of Vogue Italia) is the face of the latest Topshop ad campaign alongside Karlie Kloss. The girls are showing off their London style on a buses and tubes for the 'Topshop on the move' theme.

Topshop's creative director Ronnie Cooke-Newhouse, explained, "We wanted the campaign to have a very London vibe, sticking to Topshop's roots. And Topshop girls are movers and shakers - super-stylish, cool girls." We couldn't agree more! See below for images from the campaign.

If you thought that you had to go to Selfridges to get a great range of jeans, think again as Topshop opens a premium denim area. The flagship Oxford Circus store from August will stock jeans by the likes of Sass & Bide, J Brand and Dittos to name but a few.

There are also plans for capsule collections designed with some of the top denim brands for the autumn months. I am particularly excited to see what J Brand will design for the store.

Finally, during September's London Fashion Week there will be a pop-up denim clinic at Topshop's Oxford Circus store offering you advice on fit and styles ensuring you get the best from your jeans.

Kate Moss was in cold water yesterday over the possibility that she upstaged Leah Wood on her wedding day. However, she apolgised by paying for a second honeymoon for the couple! La Moss was out and about in London yesterday showing off her famous pins and doing a spot of self-promotion in a piece from her Topshop collection. I'm not sure about the ankle boots, I think this look would be better with gladiator sandals. See below for a way to copy her style.

Be Your Own Model Scout at Topshop

Has reading our Graduate Fashion Week coverage left you yearning to be a model but not sure where to start? Well, instead of waiting for Sarah Doukas (founder of Storm) to knock at your door why not stage your own shoot at Topshop in the Helmut Netwon photo machine! The machine landed instore on Tuesday and has already proved to be an enormous hit.

Newton developed his Newton Machine in the early Seventies and now Topshop have paid homage to the classic photographer with their own version at the Oxford Circus flagship store. Shoppers can use the machine for free with nail touch-ups by Nars and a rack of TopShop clothes at their disposal. The stylish photos will then appear on the Topshop website. It will be in London until Sunday 15th before travelling to Manchester (17th-22nd) and Dublin (17th-22nd).

Fab Worthy: Topshop Victoriana Leather Jacket

Just when you think the leather jacket trend might be heading out, twists on the classic shape start to emerge. Victorian leather jackets are popping up every where. There is no collar and they are shaped at the bottom. This jacket is part of the Kate Moss for Topshop range and I have been lusting after it for a while. I saw a girl on the tube wearing it with a floaty chiffon dress which was perfect. It's quite pricey for Topshop (£150) but very soft leather. What do you think?

I'm sure you're aware that the power clutch is a key accessory this season. There are pros and cons to this trend, the pro is that you can actually fit useful things in it without having to make sacrifices over key accessories (lipstick or powder?) but the con is that you have to carry it around all evening (obviously this is true of a small clutch too but it is usually less weighty).
This red and black studded clutch (£30) really reminds me of Michael Jackson's Thriller video so in turn terrifies me slightly. However, don't let my childhood fear put you off. What do you think?

Designers for Topshop season is in full swing. Last week Alice McCall launched her long awaited line of pretty dresses and skirts and today is the turn of Danielle Scutt. Danielle has only presented two solo collections at London Fashion Week. She graduated from Central St Martins in 2005 so to already have a line for Topshop is a great achievement.

The line consists of denim pieces from the denim shirt dress to jeans and funky tops including a tiger print body and sheer t-shirt. Prices range from £28 for the body top to £75 for a denim jacket.

Back in March I told you about Alice McCall's plans to design for Topshop. Well, the highly anticipated collection by the Australian designer is finally in stores and online today. The line is feminine but slightly quirky featuring bold prints and funky shapes.

The pixelated floral prints used appear alongside a monochrome pallet for florals that are wearable for even the least girliest girls. Prices range from £35 - £60, many of the items have already sold out online but all the pieces are still available from the Oxford Circus flagship store. The sixth collection by Kate Moss hit stores this morning containing plenty of pretty summer dresses. She recently spoke out about her status as a style icon claiming to have a "thrown together look." The highlight of the high summer line is the sure-to-sell-out red pansy dress which has appeared in many publications. It is also available in purple but is quite pricey at £60. Also, the strappy folk printed dress (£45) is great, and perfect festival wear. There are a few tops in the new collection including pretty blouses and delicate cami tops.

There are lots of pairs of her trademark shorts including vintage silk short (£35) which would be hard to pull off. As always, let us know what you think of the collection, especially if you have already bought anything!

Today saw the beginning of the mid-season sale at Topshop! Hoorah! There are so many great bargains to be found although my favourite has to be these ombre super-high Mary-Janes (£45) which I have been secretly lusting after for months.

The Topshop sale is a great excuse to stock up on basics such as bright coloured vest tops (£3) in time for the Summer. It is also a great way to pick up some pieces from their designer collaborations including Mario Schwab and Louise Goldin. See below for just some of the items on offer.

When shopping at Topshop you can now pick a pair of jeans in your size and decide if you would like a fairtrade pair! Topshop.com now has a whole section dedicated to fairtrade shopping, including denim, t-shirts and leggings. These cropped jeans are perfect for Spring and just £45, not bad for a pair of eco conscious trousers.

If you're tall, team them with some flat sandals and a floaty summer top, otherwise try with a pair of wedges to elongate your legs. Would you consider buying fairtrade jeans?

After a short break from working with the High Street retailer, Emma Cook returns with a third line for Topshop. The new collection includes animal print silk tops, a shirt dress and four dresses. It's bright coloured and fun and will definitely make you stand out from the crowd.

It was announced today that Australian designer Richard Nicoll would be collaborating with Thomas Pink. Nicoll is going to be working with Thomas Pink on a line of womenswear pieces that will be available as part of Thomas Pink's A/W 08 range. Richard Nicoll for Pink Capsule Collection will include shirts, dresses and skirts. Nicoll also continues to collaborate with Topshop.

This picture is taken from an Elle article where Diane Kruger modeled Nicoll's designs. I can't wait to see what he designs for Thomas Pink!

Fabworthy: Patent Ombre Shoe Boots

Few can resist the lure of beautiful shoes. There seems to be no other item that is even comparable for women in terms of near obsession. Finding a beautiful pair of shoes can change my entire mood. They don't necessarily have to be designer (although they often are) and they are usually heels. This pair of 'Premium' shoots (shoe-boots) from Topshop are the kind of shoes that you might stop someone in the street and ask after them.

They're blue patent fading to black around the heel with a cute ribbon tie and stiletto heel for £75 from Topshop. Probably completely unpractical for walking anywhere but probably worth the added cost of a taxi/chauffeur!

In Style magazine have announced the winners of their 2008 Shopping Awards voted for by the readers. There are no big surprises amongst the winners, the Chanel Spring collection which included the much copied star dress (pictured left) has obviously caught the eye of their readers. The best High Street store was voted as Topshop which continues to rule, possibly boosted by it's designer collaborations including Christopher Kane, Celia Birtwell and soon Alice McCall.

Fabworthy: Tails Blazer at Topshop

Androgynous clothing is never far from the catwalk and this season masculine tailoring was teamed with pretty summer dresses for a great contrasting look. This was seen at Emporio Armani, Stella McCartney and Matthew Williamson where light coloured blazers were worn to soften the look. We have already seen some of the blazers available but I couldn't resist showing you this tails blazer from Topshop (£50).

It's a slight twist on the classic shape but would look great with a pair of skinny jeans (with the longer back of the blazer saving you revealing, when your trousers fall too low) or over a summer dress for an office look. Alternatively, for evening wear I would wear it over a bandeau dress.

Kate Moss for Topshop launched two weeks ago to mixed reviews. However, the jordybee was clearly impressed by the collection as she bought the dress and teamed it with knee high footless socks and a waist belt. I think the accessories she has added make the dress more individual.

Hoop earrings are a good investment as they compliment almost any outfit. You can also pick up a nice pair for a relatively low price. However, twists on a classic are always a good addition, for example these cube beads on hoop earrings (£6).

They'd be great in the summer with loosely styled hair and a tribal or floral print dress. Alternatively dress down with wide-legged jeans and a floaty top.

Kate Moss for Topshop Part 5

There are mixed feelings about this collection which is the fifth that the super model has designed for Topshop. The prices remain quite high (£60+ for a dress, £45+ for jeans) but there are some really nice pieces that channel Moss' own style. Highlights include vintage style dresses, funky denim and a few maxi dresses. It's definitely worth look, even if you don't particularly like Moss. I've got my eye on the black and white striped cardigan. See more from the collection below.

More images of the collection were revealed in the Daily Mail today as Moss herself posed in a few of the key pieces. I predict that the blue dress (right) will be a key piece and probably sell out pretty quickly, the fringed-top (left) seems like a tricky item to wear. What do you think of the pieces?

Kate Moss' fifth collection for Topshop is launched next Tuesday 18th March. Her collection is said to take influence from her travels to Ibizia, India and Miami which sounds like an eclectic mix. A sneak preview of five of the pieces from the collection can be seen below. Moss also spoke about the line in this weeks' Grazia magazine. She discusses individual items, for example the top on the far left (below),

"This is such a pretty top. Its kaftan feel and fluid silk gives it a beachy feel. It would make a great layer over a bikini."

She also talks about the leather jacket (middle),

"Love this - it's my classic cropped leather jacket shape, but with a slight Victorian infleunce."

My personal favourite is the dress (second from right) which Moss says was inspired by,

"My collection of unique scarves from around the world. It has a very eclectic feel."

Topshop have been responsible for bringing some great designer names to the High Street including Jonathan Saunders, Celia Birtwell and Louise Goldin to name but a few. However, this week it was revealed that we can now expect another collaboration with Australian designer Alice McCall. As this is very early news, there are no images of her actual collection, only sketches of what we might expect (below).
It will be a nine-piece collection including dresses, skirts and camisole tops and will be available from 5th May 2008. Prices will probably be similar to the current designer collaboration pieces so around £80 for a dress.

Fab Flash: Jane Shepherdson Speaks Out about Topshop

On paper Jane Shepherdson transformed one store, although in actuality she changed the entire High Street by raising the expectation of the British public. During her time working at Topshop she took the store from a place to buy cheap looking clothes to a world famous shopping haunt for everybody from teenagers with pocket money to the Hollywood A-list.

She left Topshop in October 2006 supposedly following ongoing disputes with Sir Philip Green. In the months that followed she worked as a consultant for various stores before taking on a position at Whistles. She spoke to The Guardian about her time at Topshop and her plans for the future.

On her interest in clothes:"Loved buying them, loved trying them on, loved altering them, loved customising them, loved vintage. Just loved them; and it got to a point where I realised that I was more interested in it than most; realised there were a lot of people who weren't particularly interested, while I would be out every weekend, shopping, or trying things, or customising."

Yesterday I reported on PPQ's collaboration with online retailer Oli.co.uk and it got me thinking about celebrity and High Street collaborations. Over the past year there have been plenty in the UK including New Look and Lily Allen (pictured at the Hadley Freeman book launch), Topshop and Kate Moss, Mango and Penelope Cruz...But what do you make of it all?
