It's been a long style journey for Cheryl Cole. She first appeared on our radar in 2002 when she joined girl band Girls Aloud as part of PopStars: The Rivals. Back then she had a real girl next door look (below left) but since then her style has continually improved. Over the past year she has appeared on the red carpet wearing gorgeous designer gowns by the likes of Matthew Williamson, and PPQ (below right) then today it was announced that she is to be a Vogue covergirl! Following in the footsteps of fellow WAGs Coleen Rooney (who appeared in the magazine but not on the cover) and Victoria Beckham, Cheryl is said to be "very excited". Kelly Hoppen and Nicky Clarke hit the red carpet earlier this week for the Vogue Fantastic Fashion Fantasy party. The interior designer and her hairdresser boyfriend opted for slightly matching outfits for the event as they both wore velvet trousers. Whilst Kelly opted for a purple pair, Nicky wore a black pair tucked in to cowboy boots. Celebrity couples wearing matching outfits has never really impressed me that much although at least it's quite subtle here.The luxe fabric of their trousers is making a come back this season for the gothic and oppulence trends, but I'm still convinced. Maybe it makes for a cute luxe jacket but would you wear velvet trousers? Source

Friday night was Halloween (as if you didn't notice) and even the cool London kids got dressed up for the event. Alexa Chung hosted a Halloween party at Browns Focus which was attended by her fashionable friends Daisy Lowe and Pixie Geldof. Daisy opted for an on-trend gothic ensemble with bright coloured mask showing off her seemingly-endless pins. The hostess with the most Alexa got historical with a big orange dress whilst Pixie seemed to wear everything in the dress-up box. Who do you think looked the most Fab for the spooky party? This weekend has left me seriously contemplating disco leggings. On Friday night Claudia Winkelman sported a pair of sequined leggings on the Jonathan Ross Show and then Paris Hilton wore a pair to the Diesel xXx party in London on Saturday. This pair of midnight blue sequin leggings (£38) from Topshop. Although initially the idea of them seems terrifying, the reflective nature of the sequins might actually be quite flattering. I would contrast the shiny sequins with a slouchy knit for a fun daytime ensemble. What do you think of the leggings?

Yesterday Lily Allen was exposed to be wearing Spanx when an empty packet was spotted in the back of her car. The singer is proud to be curvy and obviously wanted to look her best for the red carpet. I think we all know how important it is to look good to party. Shaping underwear is a big industry particularly in recent years as TV presenters like Gok Wan and Trinny and Suzannah stress the power and importance of it. However, this got me wondering how often people actually wear spanx?

Whilst most of the retail world is suffering from slump in sales this year due to the credit crunch, charity shops have reported a 7.4% hike in sales as people embrace the idea of 'make do and mend'. Oxfam did the best gaining profits of £21 million, which is great news. It got me thinking, do you ever shop in charity shops? I always like to have a good rummage and have found some real bargains. This month's issue of W magazine reveals the cute bear mini-Karl costing $1,500 each. It is a limited edition design with only 2,500 in existence.Karl markets the bear himself saying, "Bears are very nice, as long as you are nice to them … Nothing scares me more than people with some doll collection. Who Will Win British Designer of the Year?

This week the date was confirmed for the British Fashion Council 2008 British Fashion Awards as 25th November. The awards will take place at Lawrence Hall in London's Westminster. Last year Stella McCartney took home British Designer of the Year and we're wondering who might steal her crown this season. On Monday, the latest Celia Birtwell for Topshop collection hit stores across the UK. The collection includes pretty blouses, jumpsuits and dresses all, of course, adorned with her gorgeous, classic prints.Jumpsuits are a relatively new addition to the capsule collection available in short length (£75) and full length. Personally, I think the shorter length would be more flattering on me but I still can't decide if I like it or not. What do you think?

When we covered the final of Britain's Next Top Model some of you expressed annoyance at me revealing the winner so if you haven't watched Britain's Missing Top Model yet, fear not I will not reveal the winner just yet. The episode started with the three remaining girls Sophie, Kelly and Jess. They had to do a difficult photoshoot with a photographer Amelia who did not appear to understand the point of the programme. She expressed the inconvenience of working with disabled models which came across a little insensitive. Another girl was then eliminated before a nude photo task after which the winner was chosen. GQ writer Glenn O'Brien has this week spoken out against men in flip flops stating, "Flip-flops are for the beach or maybe for washing the car or spaniel. They are not the next big thing. They are the last sad thing on the road to stylistic surrender." Although he is actually referring to men in flip flops I can't help but wonder what impact this has on the shoe for women. For me, it's a Summer staple mainly due to it's comfort even though I know fashion isn't about comfort (if it was we'd all wear slippers to work). I like the annoying noise it makes (unless you're trying to run down the stairs) and that it's name is an onomatopoeia but O'Brien's harsh words have made me rethink. Do you love the flip flop?

In this week's episode of the slightly controversial model competition Britain's Missing Top Model the girls had to make an ice-cream TV advert. Deaf model Kellie Moody (top left) is unable to speak clearly and felt the task was unfair on her. She argued that as Sophie was allowed to go down the catwalk in her wheelchair that she should be allowed to sign rather than speak in the TV advert. She was eventually asked to film the advert using both forms of communication and it was clear she was more comfortable with signing. But did you think that she should have been made to speak? The most traditional of checks has had a face lift for Autumn/Winter. Part punk, part country house – tartan was all over the runway, with the girls wearing oversize blazers, shift dresses and even high-waist trousers, in various types of plaid.Roberto Cavalli, in his Just Cavalli collection, showed clashing checks, worn with leopard print tights, whilst at D&G, tartan got the girlie treatment with ruffles and pleating.On the catwalk is one thing, but how does this look translate to real life? Are Loafers Really Back?

Our friends over at Elle UK tell us that everyone in the Elle office is currently wearing loafers and whilst every hip celeb from Alexa Chung to Fearne Cotton has been spotted sporting a pair I'm still not fully convinced. The ballet pump has reigned as the flat shoe du jour for many seasons now and has arguably outstayed it's welcome (thanks in part to it's celeb following of Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse). So whilst I am excited that change is in the air, I'm not convinced that loafers are really for me. The most popular pair currently on the High Street are from Topshop (see below) but they also featured on the catwalk at House of Holland where they featured the Holland shield. Earlier in the year we reported that Peaches Geldof would be designing a capsule collection for PPQ due to hit stores this Autumn. Well, if you can't wait any longer for a piece of Peaches's style then you'll be pleased to hear that she's set up shop on Ebay! The party-girl has taken to clearing her closet. Items on offer include a vintage '80s pink jacket, an evening dress designed by Julia Clancy and a denim dress by Diesel. Seems the daughter of Bob must be a little hard up, and maybe not as charitable as her father otherwise she might have considered donating to a charity shop. Current bids aren't very high (starting from £21) but would you buy from Peaches?

The How Britain Shops report has found a decrease in shoppers loyalty showing that a staggering 25.2% of shoppers aren't happy with the items they bought and would prefer to shop elsewhere. The report is conducted by Verdict and paints a worrying picture for retailers during the credit crunch. 22.1% of shoppers, or 10.8 million people surveyed had no loyalty to the stores they shopped in. It seems that Marks & Spencers gets the most loyalty with 90.9% of those surveyed saying they were loyal to its footwear range. Do you feel loyal to certain stores or do you shop everywhere? Source

The latest Roberto Cavalli ad campaign features his signature animal prints, but I am weary. The exaggerated leopard print appears on a maxi dress which is a slight twist on the classic style.
