If Michael Phelps had been pulled from the pool, would he have gone on to be the winningest Olympian. It's ridiculous to think that a child could be punished for being too good an athlete, but that's what is happening to Jericho Scott, a 9-year-old little leaguer in Connecticut who has an arm that can throw a fast one. While the pitcher tops off at 40 mph and has never beamed another child during a game, batters have a hard time hitting his pitches, and some parents were concerned when their sluggers went up to bat.

Next week marks the beginning of the school year for many children in the country, and some will attend school for the very first time. Kids seem to be starting formal education programs earlier than they used to, with some wee ones enrolling before they turn 2. Since 75 percent of 4-year-olds attend a preschool program, we want to know how old your child was when he began hitting the books.

If you miss the "you've got mail" of the olden, dial-up AOL days then you're not alone. I liked the reassurance upon starting up (!) the Internet that my five to ten minutes of modem time wasn't all for naught, and that I did, in fact, have mail.

Splitting an entree when dining out can be a good way to save money, especially if the restaurant is known for dishing out large portions. Do you try and encourage plate sharing when you're out with your beau or girlfriends, or would you rather find other ways to save outside the restaurant.

Word on the street is that the current generation of the Kindle is going to be replaced by a newer, younger, and prettier model.
It sounds like it's going to take a crack at improving upon the things that many (and I personally) dislike about the Kindle: the price, which will go down from $359 to a rumored $249, and the design, which is angular and slightly awkward (but surprisingly lovely in person), is to be refined. It's also rumored to be much thinner, and have a better screen.
These things make it easier to justify having a Kindle — in addition to my many books, which I'll never give up.

Here's yet another way to chuck a tennis ball without actually throwing it – time to use the power of da' feet. The Ball Stomp'r ($12) features a launch tube that fits a standard-sized ball and when you step, it soars up to 100 feet. If your dogs love to fetch and your throwing arm works about as well as mine (read: not good), this could be a nice option .
