Candace Sips Cocktails While SJP Responds to Movie News

While Sex and the City author (and rumoured I'm a Celebrity... contestant) Candace Bushnell enjoyed cocktails with Cosmopolitan after launching her fifth novel One Fifth Avenue in Sydney yesterday, Sarah Jessica Parker responded to rumours about the second SATC film. Following Kim Cattrall's confirmation about the sequel earlier in the week, SJP has clarified that things aren't quite so far along as that yet, telling Access Hollywood: "I’m thrilled to know Kim is excited but all the deals are not yet done. With 'the wind on our heels,' we hope to make it a reality". We hope so too!

On Our Radar: Patricia Field for M&S

The Sex and the City Movie has just come out on DVD which is allowing us all to relive our fashion fantasies through our favourite New York ladies. Well, if the wardrobe has left you longing for Carrie's style then fear not as Patricia Field has the answer! Today her long awaited collaboration with High Street store Marks and Spencer is revealed and I am very impressed by the pieces.

Field has essentially recreated the looks from the movie at an affordable price (including that belt) and it's perfect timing for the party season. The collection seems to be aimed at a younger clientele than normal for M&S with a sequined catsuit (£99) and an uber-short strapless dress (£35). Although some of the other pieces are definitely more flexible.

You can check out the full collection here but if you're already a fan of Field/Carrie Bradshaw you will definitely end up spending a pound of two. I am currently torn between the teal dress (£75) and the sequined top (£75). As always, let me know what you think!

Sienna Miller has accepted £15,000 damages in an out-of-court settlement against the Daily Star over a paparazzi photo taken in LA, which she claimed violated her privacy. — BBC
Janet Jackson is recuperating after being released from hospital, having been discharged after a few hours. Her shows scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been cancelled, but she is expected to return to the stage on Saturday. — E!
Travis Barker has been released from hospital after nine days in the burns unit, the day after DJ AM attended a memorial service for Chris "Lil' Chris" Baker, Travis's personal assistant who died in the plane crash. — MTV

Robin Williams is returning to the UK stage for the first time in 25 years to celebrate Prince Charles’s 60th birthday in a one-off show entitled We Are Not Amused, which also stars John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson. The show will take place at London’s New Wimbeldon Theatre on November 12 and will be televised by ITV, with ticket sale profits going to the Prince’s Trust. Tickets go on sale today. — The Times

Sex and the City Blu-ray Discs Come With Digital Copies!

I preordered Sex and the City on Blu-ray, and when it came yesterday, I was greeted with a pleasant geeky surprise: A digital copy was included! Digital copies have been included on a few DVDs and Blu-ray discs since the beginning of the year, but this is the first time I've gotten one — and with a movie that truly makes it worth it!

The disc is separate from the Blu-ray disc itself and when inserted, opens iTunes, where you enter the unique code that comes with your disc. Now I can put Carrie and the posse on my iPhone (and not even bat an eye when those broads take up 1.6 gigs!)

Have you gotten any digital copies with movies you're buying yet? Do you use them?

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

Sex and the City: The Movie
Well, the big day has arrived: the Sex and the City movie is here for you to rent or own. Whether you missed this one in theaters (hard to imagine) or are excited to fast-forward to your favorite parts, the fab four has come full circle back to your small screen. I'm interested in revisiting this one, since the movie is super long and there is a lot to take in.

This is the kind of movie for which special features were made. Get a load of these: commentary by director Michael Patrick King; a conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King; featurettes titled, "The Fabulous Fashion of Sex and the City," "Fergie in the Studio: Watch a Hit in the Making as the Singer Records Labels or Love for the Movie Soundtrack," and additional scenes.

Warner Bros. Hoping to Fast-Track the SATC Sequel

There was plenty of sequel chatter immediately following the major box office success of the Sex and the City movie, but now certain head honchos are confirming that there is "a lot of energy behind doing another SATC movie." According to EW, "a sequel to the Sex and the City movie is in the early stages of development."

HBO's president of programming group, Michael Lombardo, mentioned that they're "really heartened by the fans' enthusiasm," and a source confirmed that Warner Bros. hopes to fast-track the project, though there is still no deal and no script. In fact, EW notes that "the lead actresses involved are taking a cautious attitude towards another film, not wanting to rush a sequel and risk disappointing their loyal fans."

Buzz In: Which TV Shows Would Make Good Movies?

There's been lots of scuttlebutt lately that Friends could finally go the way of Sex and the City and make its way to the big screen. Ever since the rumor resurfaced, reps for both the studio and the actors have been busily denying it, but it's still an interesting thing to think about: Can you really imagine seeing the Central Perk crew back together again? I don't think I can picture it — but then, I don't know if I could have imagined a big-screen SATC, either, and it's made more than $350 million in theaters worldwide.

Rumors also come up from time to time about a big-screen reunion of The Sopranos or The Wire, though none of them seems to have much credibility behind it. On the other hand, though, the Arrested Development movie really seems like a good possibility now, with various cast members confirming all over the place that a deal is in the works.

Are there other series that you think could successfully leap to the big screen? And, on the other hand, are there some that you think would just never work as films?

Life's a Beach: Hat Attack

Oh yo — I am wearing a hat as I write this. I kid you not. Meant to be . . . and yes, I am a purveyor of hats so I'm always ready for a hat attack. Speaking of, the most memorable hat as of late is Samantha Jones's in the Sex and the City movie. It was so grand, so elegant, so funny. Most hats don't cast such a dramatic spell as her oversized one, but a functional, and fashionable, hat most certainly can stand out on the Summer-filled sidewalk.
