The fashion industry is always under scrutiny for some reason, whether it's because of the use of size zero models or for it's extravagant prices. Currently (and rightly so) the industry is facing great pressure to use a larger variety of models as a better representation of real women. In April, Vogue Italia outlined a plan to combat the problem by producing an issue featuring almost all black models.
Upcoming model Jourdan Dunn has already spoken out about the lack of women of colour in fashion so she was eager to appear in the issue. Also, Naomi Campbell who was the first black model to appear on the cover of Vogue Paris wanted to be part of the ground breaking edition. The photography is by Steven Meisel.
Although it has been planned for some time, it feels quite a fitting tribute to Yves Saint Laurent who championed the use of black models both on the catwalk and in magazines. See images from the issue, which is out in Europe on Thursday 26th, below.

I definitely notice the lack of black models in magazines that I read, in addition to the amount of super skinny girls. Although, this is good it has to be consistent and properly varied not just a special issue with black women, there are a bajillion different cultures out there that are a lot more misrepresented in fashion magazines. (haha, with this comment and the last I feel like I woke up on a soapbox - getting off now!)
